Urban Meyer: "I am not a crook." Challenges Kiffin to duel
Thursday, February 5, 2009
As Lane Kiffin continues to make his way across the state of Tennessee on a recruiting roadshow with stops in Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis that now seems staged to draw attention, the Florida-Tennessee hatefest continues to grow. (Seriously, imagine if Mitt Romney had Kiffin's ability to grab a headline during his presidential campaign. Well, he would have still lost to Obama. So, never mind.)
In Knoxville Kiffin told the fans to expect a five-star surprise. Enter former LSU commit Janzen Jackson. In Nashville he told fans to check their computers at five for another recruiting addition (all signs point to four-star tailback David Oku from Oklahoma). Knowing Kiffin you have to wonder whether he asked these guys to keep quiet until today so he could have the stage to himself. But, having said all that, it appears Meyer committed no violation.
And now the Gators are angry. Quoth the Gators:
"There was no rule violation and we have confirmed this with Southeastern Conference. It is obvious that Coach Kiffin doesn't know that there is not a rule precluding phone contact with a prospect during an official visit on another campus during a contact period," Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said.
"His allegations are inappropriate, out of line and, most importantly, totally false. It is completely unfair to Urban Meyer, our coaching staff, our football program and our institution. The appropriate action at this time in my opinion is for Coach Kiffin to make a public apology.
"His comments not only slandered our coach, but he violated SEC rules by publicly criticizing another coach and institution."
At least we've got some good ole-fashioned hate boiling. Kiffin is the early 1980's Jimmy Hart of SEC football right now. Give that man a mic/megaphone and it's on.
Not to be outdone. Urban Meyer released his own statement:
"When I finish bathing in the blood of virgins (not my daughters), I will issue a dueling challenge to Lane Kiffin. Our starting quarterbacks will load our pistols and we will duel at fifteen paces."
Asked his response to Meyer's duel challenge, Kiffin immediately backtracked, "You mean Crompton will be loading my pistol?"Labels: urban meyer lane kiffin duel no florida recruiting violation

Travis has become enamored of several objects, phrases or events which he frequenly references in the column. Among the most frequent:
'Bama Bangs - a term coined by Travis to refer to southern men's hairstyles that feature prominent bangs for no apparent reason. Brodie Croyle and John Parker Wilson are oft-cited violators of 'Bama Bangs rules.

When Clay Travis, acclaimed author of Dixieland Delight, decided to spend the 2008 season up close and personal with UT football, he—and every other college football aficionado—thought he was in for a rollicking ride with one of the leading contenders for the national title. After all, when the Vols kicked off the season on September 1, the defending SEC East champions were ranked 18th in the country. As head coach Phillip Fulmer prepared for the game, he reflected upon a coaching career that included an astounding 147 victories, two SEC championships, and a national title. With 34 years at UT under his belt as both a player and coach, the Tennessee native had just signed a contract extension that projected to keep him at the university long enough to become the winningest coach in program history.

There is no college ball more passionate and competitive than football in the Southeastern Conference, where seven of the twelve schools boast stadiums bigger than any in the NFL and 6.5 million fans hit the road every year to hoot and holler their teams to victory.

The newly favored man is not really a man at all, but a hairless, effeminate, germ-fearing, non-meat-eating, exfoliating, wristband-wearing woman of the worst order. We as men are told that we must embrace the sacred feminine in ourselves, even if it doesn't actually exist, and become the very quintessence of woman, plus penises. This situation is untenable. This trend must stop.

Clay Travis is the only former student manager in the history of college athletics to marry an NFL cheerleader. He managed to pull this off despite an irrational affinity for the television shows Dawson's Creek and My Super Sweet 16. While being raised in Nashville, Tenn., Travis developed a healthy obsession with college sports and Alyssa Milano. As a teenager his greatest accomplishment was taking a doo-rag wearing Luke Duke (balling as Tom Wopat) to the hole at the Nashville YMCA.
In the midst of a stellar legal career during which he specialized in rewarding the unjust and punishing the oppressed, Travis began writing for CBS Sports's SPiN section in September 2005...

So Lane Kiffin is a shrill lil bitch and, lost the top two recruits in his own state to Georgia and doesn't know the NCAA rulebook? You really got a dandy there Clay.
Isn't it embarrassing that he called out Meyer for a "recruiting violation" even though its not one? That makes the comments from Spurrier about the NCAA rules test that more hilarious.
Except the Spurrier comment was also inaccurate.
Kiffin replied that he got 39 out of 40 on his test and asked Spurrier to provide his score.
Crickets.
Again, Kiffin is an entertainer. Sports is entertainment. There should be more of this stuff.
I hope you aren't feeling good about UT's chances for the next, say, five or so years? Tell your boy Kiffin to call Richt and ask him if he thinks that was a good idea.
Apparently Kiffin's 39/40 doesn't indicate broad-reaching knowledge of recruiting rules. In addition to falsely accusing Meyer of impropriety, he has also committed a secondary violation by simulating a game day for recruits during an official visit weekend -- a minor violation that was also committed by former USC assistant Steve Sarkisian in his first few weeks as head coach at Washington.
And when did accusing a coach of recruiting violations become "entertainment." It's one thing to make snide comments and remarks, but to blatantly (and falsely) accuse another coach of wrongdoing has nothing to do with entertainment. It has to do with knowing that you're now the head coach of another head coach's bitch.
Lane needs to brush up on recruiting rules AND SEC rules. Kiffin's an entertainer all right, Clay--he's a full fledged ass-clown:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- SEC Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments made earlier today.
"Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.1 clearly states that coaches and administrators shall refrain from directed public criticism of other member institutions, their staffs or players.”
“The phone call to which coach Kiffin referred to in his public comments is not a violation of SEC or NCAA rules. We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules.”
Check this out.
Foot in mouth already.

You know, Al Davis looked pretty crazy with that video he made in defense of himself.. but it is starting to look like he was dead-on regarding the character of Lane Kiffin. Lying little bitch always starting trouble.
Lets see how the players react.. He supposedly did not have the respect of the players in Oakland. They may have liked him, but ask Ron Zook, players liking you doesn't equal respect. It equals multiple arrests and general lack of hard work and motivation, which Tennessee already has plenty of(Just ask Brandon Spikes)
Give me a break. In two months Kiffin has gotten the rest of the SEC more frustrated than Fulmer did in the last ten years.
Time will tell. But each day of the Kiffin regime based on what I'm seeing and hearing makes me more comfortable with Hamilton's decision.
I wouldn't consider it "frustrated." I'd say more offended and/or baffled. And really, is it that good of an idea to rile up your opponents, particularly when you're unproven? Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing how this all pans out next fall. I do give Kiffin props for getting me excited for the season already, so that's something.
I love it, Kiffin is stirring the pot and adding more depth to the the already deep Tennessee-florida rivalry. (I hate uf so much I refuse to capitalize there name).
So I think everyone needs to calm down, this is just Kiffin pushing meyer's buttons. We will all thank Kiffin in three years when this rivalry is a boiling pot of hate.
If opponents are frustrated with him after they've played his team, dear, that will be an achievement.
If the SEC were "Leave It To Beaver", Urban Meyer would be Ward, Les Miles would be June, and Nick Saban would be Wally. I just can't figure out if Kiffin would be Eddie Haskell or the Beaver. Maybe a combination of the two.
This guy is going to give us quite a few chuckles while he's getting his ass kicked for the next three years (and then stands in the unemployment line).
Wow. I can't believe the Gators...well, I can't believe they took the bait. I don't even think it was meant to be bait. Kiffin, still the new guy on campus, throws some red meat to the Vol Nation, undoubtedly and deliberately below the belt, and what does multi-betrophied endlessly praised Florida do? Ignore it? Laugh it off? Poke fun at our 5-7 record and 9th in the SEC class?
Nooooooo. They get righteous.
Scared much?
You realize publicly accusing a school/coach of recruiting violations is a tad more serious than teasing about not being able to spell Citrus without UT and the like, right? Florida's supposed to ignore it so only the initial Kiffin story gets any attention and Urban/UF get the reputation of being cheats? There's a great idea.
One would think if you want to stoke the rivalry you could, I dunno, beat the other team?
Lane Kiffin's accusations have masked the fact that Tennessee's recruiting class ranks 10th in the SEC.
So what if UT "stole' a couple of recruits from the Gators? Florida was just trying to fill some holes, so it was no big loss. They just replaced those two with others.
Let's see what September 19th looks like at the end of the day.
Maybe Johnson and Brooks should be upset that Kiffin has started in on them...yet.
